From writing this semester, it was indeed challenging. To start off, I had often felt irritated that my writing wouldn’t meet the standards in the course learning objectives, thus affecting my overall score. These objectives have brought out the weaknesses in my writings, in which, I thought I didn’t have to begin with. Moreover, it has introduced me to  various parts of writing genres I have not covered before such as writing an opinion piece and the critical analysis. It has also allowed to write about topics that are underrated in the media; topics such as hair discrimination in the United States. The most diffcult piece of writing I have done was the critical analysis because I had to analyze a video instead of an article and incorporate secondary sources. As a writer, I typically like to stand out and not do whatever my classmates were doing. For instance, while I was viewing my peers’ drafts, I had noticed that they all were analyzing articles.

What I learned about writing prior, has changed as of now. Before, I knew that writing was meant as the key to viewing one’s soul, although I had never found pleasure in writing. What I had learned this semester, is to do all of analyzing and being able to connect my sources with my overall thesis statement, which was quite diffcult. In my portfolio, I have provided my responses to Audre Lorde and Christopher Lebron’s writings and incorporated evidence on how they came about this idea they had on their subject. The criticism and feedback I had received have helped and I have a clear understanding on what I need to do in order to perfect my writing in the future.
