When writing this opinion based article, I intended for this to be similar to TeenVogue. I chose that publication because for 1. The audience is well diverse, and 2. I was targeting a specific age group which happen to be teenagers. I wasn’t expecting my audience to argue with me but I wanted them to be open minded about a sensitive topic that affects minorities and how certain groups of people, such as whites in particular have affected the other. There is a saying “children are the future,” so we must create better ideologies and less hate so that our young ones could follow with later on. If I were to mimic a different publication such as the New Yorker or The NY Times, this piece would have been more complex and critical since I’d be targeting a different age group who are readers with a higher level of education.
I had to create a heading just like TeenVogue. They come within a variety of subjects such as Identity, Culture, Politics, Fashion, etc. Then there is a title and a sub- title underneath in smaller font. My topic was more about individuality so I decided to focus on the Identity section. In comparison from TeenVogue and other publications, I made my article more narrative and not broad like the Washington Post. I have included hyperlinks from various sources outside of my publication to make my point more valid. For instance, I have used sources for Allure publication, where six black people share similar stories about the struggles of how society viewed their mane. In addition, I have also included a source from the Washington Post about the consequences of not illegalization hair discrimination.
Knowing this was going to be more narrative article, I felt that it was necessary to imply pathos by including personal experiences to draw my audience even more and form a connection. Henceforth, I had intented to write my opinion editiorial informally and felt it was important to get to the historical standpoint of the situation and its impact in 2020.
